Dear Emfietzi.

Number of the staff of CSSD is depending from the work that they can do in the working time. Working time in different countries can be different – in Russia – 40 hours in the week – 8 hours in the day. If your staff working 24 hours – you can count it by yourself.
In my country we have some normative for amount of work to be done. If we are have 60*8= 480 min in the day, it mean that we must do 480 reference unit of time.
In Russia – one separate instrument – 1 reference unit. One textile thing – 0,5 reference unit, one special set we are counting on formula: OTZ= (N x ТК) + (М x ТО) + ТY, where
N – Total instrument in the set
TK – reference unit for collection the set (0,1 reference unit/ per item)
M – Total instrument that we must to clean in one set
TO – reference unit for cleaning (0.5 reference unit per item)
TY – reference unit for packaging (0.5 reference unit per item)
For example if you have Special set with 50 steel instruments OTZ= (50*0,1)+ (50*0,5)+0,5= 5+25+0,5= 30,5 reference units.
So, if you can count all reference units for all your CSSD you can (for example) 10000 reference unit/480 reference unit (work one person per day)= 20,8=21 person to do this work.
In some special operations you can use timing (timekeeping)

Hope it’s help.

Dear Petr Demidov, you’ve been a great help. Could you possibly know too, if there is any bibliography on this matter?

Dear Emfietzi.

In Soviet Union in 80-s It was exist some scientifically systems of organization of work group in industry. One of them was calling team contract. All of work of members of the team was calculated in reference unit (1 reference unit= 60 second of working time). This system was started to use in sterilization of medical instruments and writhed like Fresh tool document in 1993. I have translation of Fresh tool document in English and I can send it to you, but this type of document is working only in Russia law field. Maybe you can find something in books of scientifically organization of working group in your own country.
Unfortunately I wasn’t find literature about this problem in English.
